Dear Principal Barrett, Assistant Principal Lee, and Mr. Woo,
On behalf of my student __________________ in _____ grade at ___________________, I am writing to share my strong support for the addition of boys’ and girls’ lacrosse as official CIF sports at Alameda High School.
Lacrosse is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country, will be featured in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, and already has a strong foundation here in Alameda. The Alameda Lacrosse Club (ALC, aka “Alameda Attack”) currently serves a diverse group of youth athletes from 1st through 8th grade. Last spring, over 60 island players participated, and both interest and funding continue to grow each year across girls’ and boys’ programs.
[insert if your student has played lacrosse]
[Your student’s name] has played lacrosse for [X] years with Alameda Lacrosse Club (or another program) and is eager to continue competing at
Alameda High School. Without CIF teams, however, [his/her/their] opportunities—and those of many other Alameda students—end at 8th grade unless we leave Alameda for private schools or programs elsewhere.
Neighboring public school districts—including Berkeley, Piedmont, Oakland and many others throughout the Bay Area —have already launched competitive high school lacrosse programs. I am hopeful to see AUSD join them in the near-term so our student-athletes are not left behind.
Why act now?
- Many AHS students already play lacrosse and want to compete for their school.
- A growing number of experienced players will be entering AHS, ready to join in 9th grade
- Existing fall/winter athletes (football, flag football, soccer, basketball, cross country, etc.) transition well to lacrosse, which is a spring sport.
- ALC and AHS parents and families are 100% ready to support this high school program through fundraising, equipment coordination, Boosters’ involvement, volunteer time and outreach.
Thank you for your leadership and commitment to expanding athletic opportunities for Alameda students. I hope you will help ensure lacrosse becomes a lasting and meaningful part of AUSD’s athletic program.
With appreciation,
